Make a Donation
For the donor when the value of contributed property is over $5,000:

  1. Written acknowledgement from The CCLT which includes:
    (a) Description of property donated;
    (b) Whether The CCLT provided any goods or services in consideration for the
    contribution and if so, the value of such goods or services; and
    (c) Good faith estimate of value of contributed property.
  1. Maintain written records of:
    (a) How property was acquired (purchase, gift, inheritance, etc.)
    (b) Date donor acquired the property
    (c) Donor's basis in the property
  1. Qualified appraisal made no more than 60 days before contribution.
  2. Appraisal summary attached to donor's tax return (see IRS Form 8283)

Bargain Sales

  1. Property sold to a charity for less than fair market value.  The difference between fair
    market value and sale price is intended as a gift to charity.
  2. Such contributions are available, however the donor has the sole burden of determining:
    (a) whether the donor make take such a deduction,
    (b) if the donor may take such a deduction, the requirements and substantiation
    needed for such donations, and
    (c) the amount of such donation.  In the event of a donation to CCLT, the CCLT will
    provide the donor with the items described in #1 of the Checklist.
